Features
The 2705 Makita table saw is an all-around and powerful saw that would not be out of place in your workshop or on the job-site. The 15 amp motor, complete with electric brake, delivers a no-load speed of 4,800 RPM.
This is a sturdy table saw with a machined aluminum die-cast table top. The table saw all up weighing in at 65 pounds or so. This is somewhat heavier than other portable table saws in its class, the DeWalt 10 inch table saw for example comes in at only 45 pounds.
The large cutting capacity of just over 3 1/2 inches at 90 degrees gives this machine plenty of scope for most workshop and job site projects.
Tool-less blade guard.
The 2705 saw features a blade guard that is easily removed and replaced and is held in position with a cam lock. With two adjustable side guards, you are able to get easy access to the blade, allowing the user to get accurate measurements from the blade to the fence. The design of the safety guard also gives the operator an excellent view of the work becoming in contact with the blade.
Knife Spreader. The riving knife – spreader, as well as allowing through cuts, is adjustable to three positions for dado cuts and through cuts.
Need to cut a dado joint? No problem, this Makita table saw can support up to a 13/16 in by 6-inch dado blade.
Great Storage Facility. The Makita 2705 table saw contains a storage area where you can stash all your table saw accessories. The storage will hold items such as your safety guard, push stick or Pushblock, the rip fence and miter gauge, plus saw blades wrenches and the power cord.
Best Application
The Makita table saw 2705 is an ideal saw for both the home handyman/woodworker or as a job site contractor saw. One of the main points uncovered in reading what others have liked is the flexibility of the saw. In that, it is reasonably light enough to move around, especially if you also have the custom saw sable stand.
Also, the saw can easily handle the various table saw accessories that are available. Shopvac fittings will go straight on to the saw without adaptors.
For the home handyman/DIY guy or gal, the Makita table saw 2705 would be a very good match. Being that it can be used with a table saw stand if you have limited space at home and that it can easily be set into a workbench if need be.
For contractors who need to move a table saw more often or into tricky locations, the saw may prove to be too heavy to move often. The use of a wheeled table saw stand would be a great help. All the same for a more compact and lighter table saw contractors may want to check out the DeWaltDW745 or the Bosch table saws.

Performance
For those that want plenty of power in a saw the Makita table saw 2705 has it in spades. Compared to other saws in its class, the DeWalt and Bocsh portable table saws, the Makita runs at least 1000 rpm faster. It is one of the only saws in its class that has the power and cutting ability to cut 4 x timber in one pass.
The power brake system is really efficient. It will bring the cutting blade to a stop within seconds of shut down. This is a great feature for those who like to get on with things and not wanting to wait for the blade to slow. Also a unique safety feature.
There are mixed reviews as far as the rip fence is concerned, with some claiming its not up to standard. Then there is the other school who think the fence is just great. Our take on it is that one of the reasons we buy a table saw is so we can cut accurate cuts using the fence.
Makita Fence & Table size
The Makita fence is made from sturdy extruded aluminum, similar to the Bosch miter saw fence. Because the fence is a tubular box section it would be considered stronger than say, the DeWalt fence which is only made from aluminum angle or L shaped. This is not to say the DeWalt fence is poor, just that the extruded fence will be stronger as it has four sides instead of two.
The table size is good for such a compact saw, coming in at just over 24 inches by 22 inches. The end extensions are square, level and extend smoothly to give the ability to cut 4 x 8 plywood or other types of sheet and wide materials. The saw incorporates two anti-kickback mechanisms that are incorporated into the base. The blade height adjustment is solid as is smooth.
One of the better and essential features of the Makita 2705 table saw is the riving knife, which easily is adjusted to three positions. No more blade jamming! The saw operates smoothly and the visual aids such as the rip measurement scale and the guard magnifier take out the guesswork when doing precision work.
Pros
- Great power, close to 1000 rpm more than the competition.
- Quality build
- Safety features, The Electric brake, kickback stops, blade cover, and riving knife.
- Accurate fence
Cons
- Heavier than competition
- Some have trouble with the fence
Makita 2705 Table Saw Conclusion
While DeWalt and Bosch make a more compact table saw, the build quality and feel of the Makita 2705 is solid. The Makita table saw is definitely heavier than the others mentioned and I suspect that this is due to the quality of the build. This saw is a precise piece of equipment and would be an asset to any home workshop or small business. With its electric brake, cutting power and generous table size the Makita 2705 table saw takes some beating.
For DIY and the home woodworker, the Makita 2705 would be an ideal machine for the workshop. For contractors this table saw may be a little heavy for some to move around, depends on how you are physically. However, the saw would certainly not be out of place on any job site especially when paired up with a good quality table saw stand. For this, I can highly recommend the Bosch Gravity Rise.
